A high profile case which lasted for 13 years has finally come to an end. This tragic saga started when Gordon Paget and his now late partner Philip Furtney opened a chain of bingo halls in Florida in the 1990’s. In the midst of their success, their halls were raided and forcibly shut down by the authorities. They were charged with racketeering by the state grand jury in Orlando in 1995. This was a severe trial for both the partners. They were put in jail for many weeks and was acquitted by a jury in 1999.
However, the partners ordeal didn’t come to an end as the office of the attorney general pressed lawsuit for the bingo partners to pay damages. The case was again presented to the court in 2005 but had to meet disappointment when the Orange county jury decided in favor of the state.
On August 20, 2008, after 13 years of bingo legal battle, Senior judge Lawrence V. Johnston awarded £13.5 million in damages to the bingo business for years of stress and court appearances. A well fought case and a well deserved amount. A lesson to all the online UK bingo players ,” Justice is for all, small or big, what matters is your determination to win!”
