Yet another ban is in the news and this time it is Argentina who is in the forefront of prohibiting online bingo, gambling and casino. Argentina seems to be following the footsteps of US UIGEA (Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act) which is a law that bans any form of online bingo and gambling in the country.
Why is suddenly Argentina taking this move to block online gambling? Luis Alberto Mauri, the mayor of Buenos Aires is taking the lead to enforce a law that will stop illegal online gambling in the country. Argentina’s provinces have their own ordinances related to online gambling and as such there are no rules that forbids online gambling. Argentina restricts companies from its boarders but allows its citizens to gamble from international companies. In light of this, it is a surprise that Argentina is looking to block online gambling.
There are already two bills that are going to be circulating in the coming days. The first one outlines the list of illegal online bingo sites and gambling sites. The second one outlines the penalties that Internet service providers (ISP) will have to entail in case they offer these illegal services to the general public. It is also said that the enforcement of this prohibition will be more effective than the UIGEA of USA.
It is for the bingo operators to keep a watchout on this bill turning into a law. Online gambling in Argentina is a form of social activity and is enjoyed by many. It is the priority of the mayor that through this law only legal Online Bingo, poker and casino games will be available to the citizens. Also through this, the provinces will be able to collect taxes appropriately which will benefit in promoting local activities.
